Cultural Resources Management
For the past 33 years, HRA has provided a full range of Cultural Resource Management (CRM) services for transportation, military and energy clients, federal and state government agencies, and commercial and residential developers. Our CRM services help clients meet the requirements of Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the National Environmental Policy Act, as well as state legislation.
We have extensive experience in Idaho, Montana, Washington, Oregon, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Alaska, California, Utah, Nevada, and Kansas.
HRA has 14 archaeologists who meet the Secretary of the Interior’s qualifications in Archaeology, and 10 historians who meet the qualifications in History and/or Historic Preservation. Each HRA office maintains a laboratory designed to process, analyze, catalog and provide temporary storage for artifacts recovered during field investigations.
HRA's experience with compliance projects includes inventory and evaluation of cultural resources in large blocks of land or linear corridors associated with gas pipelines, electrical transmission lines, and transportation improvements; all with different logistical challenges.
We have also assisted in the identification of creative and less traditional mitigation options that effectively address the significance of a resource and the nature of the proposed undertaking. Such projects have provided HRA archaeologists and historians with an understanding of the range of cultural resources that may be encountered in rural and urban areas.
We maintain standard archaeological field equipment and our field staff is experienced in the use of a variety of mapping techniques, including the use of Global Positioning System (GPS) units, laser rangefinders, theodolites, and total stations, as well as other recording equipment. HRA has the capability for seamless downloading into Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
